Damage Inspection

When goods, or any transportation unit used to its transport such as container, truck or vessel are damaged due to any external circumstances, a prompt and professional inspection is essential.

CISS GROUP provides independent, neutral, and legally valid damage inspection services to help cargo owners, freight forwarders, and insurers to asses the extend of damages and its cause. Our damage Reports accurately document losses and support compensation claims.

CISS GROUP conducts thorough inspections of damage sustained by various types of cargo and transport units. This includes standard and refrigerated shipping containers, palletized and bulk cargo stored in warehouses or open yards, as well as commercial goods, equipment, raw materials, and packaging. Transport units such as vehicles, trailers, and container chassis are also covered.

Damage may result from a variety of incidents, including:

  • Water ingress, rain, flooding, or storms
  • Fire (due to electrical malfunction or external causes)
  • Lightning or thunder-related incidents
  • Mechanical impact (e.g., dropped container, vehicle collision and/or improper handling during loading/unloading

Key stages of damage inspection:

1. Rapid on-site assessment

Our professional inspectors arrive at the location as quickly as possible after the incident to assess damage while conditions are still verifiable.

2.Visual and structural examination

Inspection of container walls, seals, floors, doors, and locks for perforation, deformation, soot traces, shock damage, or fire impact. Goods inside are checked for burns, contamination, flooding or mechanical damage.

3.Photographic and video evidence

Detailed visual recording of all damages and conditions on site are performed.

4.Identification and inventory of affected goods

We identify SKUs, (Stock Keeping Unit) batches, serial numbers, and packaging details of all damaged goods. Partially affected cargo is separated and categorized.

5.Professional damage report

A detailed inspection report is issued, describing:

  • Nature and extent of the damage
  • Possible cause (e.g., fire, water ingress, physical impact)
  • Estimated loss in weight or value
  • Supporting photos and videos

6.Digital certification

All reports are digitally signed and accompanied by a QR code for authentication. Reports are protected against tampering and securely stored on CISS GROUP servers.
